Draw a suitable tool tip along the positive side: the magnetised tip helps retain a screw while positioning it. To remove magnetism, move the tip along the negative side. This allows the same screwdriver or bit to be adapted to the job, such as delivering a screw to a hard-to-reach location or reducing magnetic attraction.
